NM-Carbomer 674/ 960/940HC/690 application of cathode binder for alkaline batteries

Gelling agent for alkaline Zinc-MnO2 battery is one of the important cathode binders.  Starch was used in the early stage, and then carboxymethyl cellulose with better chemical stability was used. At present, carbomer as cross-linked polyacrylic acid polymer which is more stable in chemical performance, is used as the gelling agent of the battery. The gel electrolyte composed of alkaline electrolyte and gel agent is dispersed in the cathode active substance, and the gel cathode binder is prepared.


In general, Polyacrylate used alone in alkaline electrolyte powder cathode active material, can keep good gel, early little sway, but after a period, polyacrylic acid from pulp, couldn't keep gel state, at the same time anode polyacrylic acid powder free moving in the direction of the diaphragm electrolyte, The lack of electrohydraulic supply for cathode reaction affects the electric performance of the battery, especially the performance of heavy load discharge.  In addition, with the decomposition of polyacrylic acid, the open circuit voltage of the battery decreases, especially in the alkaline battery using manganese dioxide as the positive electrode.  In order to overcome this shortcoming, the initial use of ordinary polyacrylic acid sodium, although polyacrylic acid sodium can eliminate the shortcoming of polyacrylic acid, but it makes the gel adhesion and swaying increase, and the operation of the battery filling gel becomes very difficult.  And then carbomer with cross-linked net chemical structurer come into being.

3) The negative electrode gelation state should not flicker as far as possible, and its performance remains stable after battery drop and vibration.

4) When used at room temperature, the terminal voltage fluctuation which is easy to occur at the end of intermittent discharge should be prevented.
